Why The Duffer Brothers Chose Jackson

Welcome to Stranger Tours! We're excited to take you on a journey through the filming locations of the hit TV series, Stranger Things. As you may already know, the show is primarily filmed in the charming town of Jackson, Georgia. But have you ever wondered why the creators, the Duffer brothers, chose this particular location?

Well, we spoke to Tony Holley, the site selection director for the show, and he gave us some insight into the decision-making process. According to Holley, Georgia is a fantastic state for filming, with a diverse range of landscapes and a supportive film industry. But when it came to choosing the specific location for Hawkins, there were a few factors that set Jackson apart.

Firstly, Jackson has the perfect architecture for the show. The town's buildings and streetscapes have a distinctly 80s feel to them, with plenty of vintage signage, brick facades, and old-fashioned streetlights. This lends itself perfectly to the show's nostalgic, retro vibe, and makes it easy for the production team to create an authentic small-town setting.

Secondly, Jackson is just the right size for the show. It's not too big, so the crew can easily take over the town and film without too much disruption. But it's not too small either, meaning there are plenty of interesting locations to shoot in, from the library where Chief Hopper famously researched the Hawkins lab, to Melvald's General Store where Joyce Byers (aka Winona Ryder) worked.

And finally, there's just something special about Jackson that made it the perfect fit for Stranger Things. As Holly puts it, "It's a place where the past meets the present, and where you can still feel the history of the town in every brick and cobblestone." This echoes the show's own themes of nostalgia, time travel, and the enduring power of friendship and community.

So there you have it - the reasons why the Duffer brothers and the Stranger Things production team chose Jackson, Georgia as the filming location for the show. And we have to say, we couldn't agree more. As we take you on our Stranger Tours, you'll see firsthand just how perfectly this town fits the world of Hawkins, Indiana. From the charming downtown area to the spooky woods and beyond, it's a location that truly comes alive on screen, and we're excited to show it to you.
